1996 grand am... inconsistant loss of power

hey,

well having probs with the car... it losses power when ever it feels like it... i mean you can be going along just fine come to a stop sign and then go to pull away and nothing... and you the gas to the floor and you are doing 30mph other times you put the gas to the floor and you are gone...

so i took it into autozone for them to hook the computer up for free and tell me whats wrong... they dont get a reading from the car at all, no output... they tried 2 different computers incase it was theres but still couldnt get a reading. no engine light or anything comes on in the car. Autozone said the computer is probably dead.

what is the likely hood it could be something else? i mean i guess i dont want to go buy a new computer and find out it was not the computer after all.

thank you for any help/tips any one can give me?

Yes it is possible that it could be the computor, but first you got to check and make sure your computor grounds, which are on the engine are clean and tight. Then try scanning again. Good Luck.

I just changed the engine in my camaro and had the same problem. It turned out to be a plug wire that melted to the exhaust manifold and was grounding out. I changed it and its running perfect now.
