Transmission wiring connector question

I purchased a used 2004 Alero and noticed it sometimes shifts hard going into second gear. So I started looking around in the engine bay and noticed something out of place. There is a large grey plug with about 10 or so wires coming out of it. I noticed two wires coming out of the wiring sheath. I followed these two wires and to my surprise they are connected to a fuel injector that is hanging there! Whoever did this had cut two wires and soldered these two. I know a brown wire was cut but not sure about the other color. Why could this have been done.
Thanks for any info.
