v-tech engine 1998 honda civic

I'am trying to buy a 1998 honda civic v-tech. the vin number says its a v[tech but it isnt written on the cam cover. how can i tell if its a real v-tech

first of all its VTEC! not Vtech unless its powered by a phone... what model 98' civic is it?

its not written on the valve cover for those years. look for a stamp saying d16y8 of the engine block to the left of the header. if it doesn't say that then its not vtec

Actually that's incorrect because the HX model is powered by a D16Y5 motor which is also VTEC, sure it's the pansy E-VTEC, but it's still VTEC none-the-less.

So d00d, go with either an EX or HX model for that year.

vtec-e is for fuel economy

and guess what, all new civics besides the Si are based on VTEC-E technology, so for all you new civic owners, this ones for you.
