1993 LT1 Fuel Pump

So I'm about to send my daughter off in my '93 LT1. The car has 80,000 miles and has been carefully maintained. I don't run the gas tank down low, and I've replaced filters regularly. I just replaced the water pump and distributor,battery and tires.I'm wondering if I should replace the perfectly functioning fuel pump before the car leaves my immediate vicinity to help insure that a pump failure doesn't occur.I would do the job from the top of the tank,so excess labor is not a concern. Any feed back on the longevity of these fuel pumps from personal experience would be appreciated.Thanks.

I would not repplace the pump with 80,ooo mi and your work / up keep with this vehicle.

your family member most likely will not care for this as you did..

If they run the vehicle with less than 1/4 tank of fuel a new pump will fail in short amount of time.

these pumps usually fail around 180,ooomiles. check the fuel pressures and see if the pump is in the correct spec pressures..if on the low side replace it with a delphi pump...

Thanks jcAT for the info. Fortunately,my daughter does take very good care of this car.I let her start driving it when she turned 16 and the car was 6 years old.She drives the car easy, and lets me know of any potential problems in plenty of time (unlike my wife with her own car, who will let the engine fall out and then complain of some funny noise the car made before it stopped).I'll leave the fuel pump alone for now. I replaced all the tail light sockets on the LT1 along with the other stuff I did, and I'll hope that it keeps my daughter safe when she is away from dad's roadside service for awhile.Thanks again.
