Trap Door To Access Fuel Pump

Has any one done this yet? If so, did you access it thru the trunk or did you take the back seat out?

I took out the back seat to get to the trunk. I used a cold chisel.

It's not purtie but it works for me...lolz!

I would secure the cut out with a few rivets and some gal. sheet metal. then cover the seam with a sealant like DOW 795 to keep out the exhaust fumes etc.... If you ever have to do this again the sealant is easy to cut.

so i guess theres no access??was it fairly easy to see where to cut?
could you use a saws-all(is there enough room)

you sure that it's inside trunk up to your left side?

Yes, it's the inside of the trunk directly behind the backseat.

The cold chisel (no sparks) cut thru like butter...lolz!

And yeah, I'm gonna seal it way better and clean it up. I wasn't planning the project till the weekend as I was gathering tools. Then it went out in front og my buddy's house late in the afternoon so it was a quick job to do before losing the light...lolz!

Got some sheet metal, gasket sealer, and DUCK TAPE! I used tin snips to get rid of the access metal.

I may add 4 screws later on, but I believe this is purtie secure for now.

That's pretty cool... I just say whatever works for you. I'm just liking the fact that I won't ever have to drop the tank anymore.

I'm thinking about doing this to my Ford Aerostar...lolz!

I have a 1996 Astro, Cargo Van and I havent done it yet...
I had a Very Important Question, and that , How the GUy made a Lip. to hold the Trap Door from going into the Fuel Pump , etc
I do Not want to have Cargo, push or vibrate this door back into the Fuel Pump.

also I heard a Hrbor Frightr Shears, works the best for no SPark,

Yeah, mines pretty secure with the gasket sealer and duck tape... but I am gonna put four sheet metal screws at the corners this week.

what you do is buy some galvanized sheet metal ..get a thick guage that is stiff but, one you can cut with a good pair of tin snips..make 2 inches larger than the hole.seal edges and using screws or a few rivets to lock down...the OEM piece you cut out best not use !

Or just drop the tank down like you're supposed to, and forget ripping a hole in the body.
