taillight question

i have a 92 bonnie sse that was leaking water through the lens' and i could only find the tail lights of a se so i had to do a little splicing and since then the dash has been saying that my lights are burnt out , but they are not. what could have caused this and id there any way that i can fix it till i can get some sse tail lights. also i just recently changed the front end out to a 96 sse and had to get new headlights and might have to splice them as well to get the lights to fit in the headlight assembly
