Engine Coding EGR Insufficient and Too Lean Bank1/2

Okay, so I did a bit of a tune up the other day, here's what i did and then i'll get to the problem

Replaced Autolite Platinums gapped at .60mm with NGK Laser iridium ix at .52mm
Replaced Belden plug wires with NGK Like-OEM wires (blue ones)
Replaced Motorcraft Ignition Coil with Accel HEI Ignition coil (the 170.00 one)

I broke part of the vacuum line running from the EGR solenoid to the EGR valve, I pieced it back together using heater hose that was already there, the line is about 2 inches shorter than it was because it was that hard plastic fragile crap that always breaks.

At first the engine was coding just System Too Lean Bank 1

Now its coding Too Lean Bank 1 and 2
EGR Flow Insufficient.

I replaced the EGR Vacuum Solenoid and am trying to replace the valve itself but the dang pipe its connected to is frozen, vice grips won't even turn it, and I can't get a breaker bar in there without removing the brake fluid reservoir (And yes I've sprayed with PB Blaster).

Any thoughts on this matter? Some research has shown me to suggest that after replacing the valve, I should replace a differential pressure feedback sensor as well.

If you are all of a sudden getting a lean code, its more then likely that you generated a vacuum leak while performing your maintenance and you are now sucking in un-metered air. The O2 sees this as added oxygen and tries to richen the mixture. Whats the exact code your getting?

1) Check the DPFE sensor on the back of throttle body.
2) How did the EGR gas passages look on the Intake, when the throttle body was off?

Re: Engine Coding EGR Insufficient and Too Lean Bank1/2

I'll check the sensor after I replace the damaged and pieced together vacuum lines.

Also if the throttle body is that big silver piece that sits on top of the motor I had to remove when I changed the rear plugs and wires? As far as I could tell it was okay, I didn't FULLY remove it, I just removed the MAF tubing and the bolts and kinda pushed it out of the way a bit, not too far as to bend or break anything (at least knowingly or recklessly) but enough to change the parts.

Also, I am noticing as per HiFLow's input, I'm getting considerably less miles to a tank now, probably lost about 60 miles to this tank.

Re: Engine Coding EGR Insufficient and Too Lean Bank1/2

If you take the throttle body off, you will see the EGR passages on top of intake.

Visual Inspect EGR system-
1) EGR valve
2) EGR gasket
3) EGR valve position sensor
4) EGR Pressure feedback sensor (DPFE), and vacuum hoses.

A smoke test can pinpoint your vacuum leak, also see Similar Threads at the bottom!

Re: Engine Coding EGR Insufficient and Too Lean Bank1/2

Hey thanks for all the help, I found the problem and its all fixed!

Does anyone else notice a lot of slop in their shifter? I thought it was me, but then I noticed a 98 Mercury Mystique that had so bad slop that barely bumping it up or down knocks it out of gear...
