air intake

i just got a cold air intake and was wondering if anyone knew what makes the hissing sound -i just got a cold air intake and was wondering if anyone knew what makes the hissing sound. about this sound it goes away after the accelerator is pushed in more about the hissing sound on my intake it only makes the noise when the pedal is slightly pressed i figured it was only the air passing the valve and couldnt hear it before cuz the stock system(like pwman said) but it seems like it could be getting worse but i could be hearing things i for one dont like the sound it makes it seem like i have engine problems

The air going in the engine naturally makes that sound. Your stock air box usually suppresses these sounds. Most people like that sound, as fo I.

if it is a pshhhh... like a blow off valve it could be a vacuum leak. you probably developed one when you installed the intake.

if you are refering to a growl type of sound...that is just the normal sound the intake makes

don't think it is a vacuum like. My itnegra does the same thing. The engine creates a vacuum and the outside air rushed to get in and makes that noise. The noise comes right where the filter is so it can't be a vacuum leak (well, on my car)

uh...yeah that why i said that if it makes a gorw sound that is just the ir rushing in at WOT...

a more quiet blow off valve type sound could be a vacuum leak.....i know i had one and me and polygon were calling it my secret turbo

not trying to argue

but, i'm talking about the "pssshhh" sound. that is what i'm saying i don't think is a leak. I have the growl sound and the "secret turbo"

For your car, where was the leak and how did you get rid of it? Maybe mine is a leak too.

i'm not sure where the leak was because i took it to my dealership and they fixed it(my car is still under warranty) BTW after it was fixed my top end improved dramatically.

you never know that pshhh..sound you have might be a vacuum leak or it might be not....in my case it was though...

no the vacuum leak was not caused by the intake.
