Laser Question
I am thinking about getting a color laser printer for decals and wanted to know if they print OK on the Ink Jet Decal paper like Testor's. I have some paper for lasers only that is white but every type of paint or clear including water based acrylics makes the decal wrinkle up. Any recommendations on a decent one for under $300. I know they print better on plain paper but I have never tried making decals with one.

Re: Laser Question
I have a Canon LBP5000 colour laser and it prints very well. The quality you get from it really depends on what you put into it. If your artwork is poor, the printed decals will be poor as well. You can print onto white or clear laser paper. I find the ink-jet decal paper is no good in a laser printer. The only slight problem I get with mine is when I use white paper the heat from the printing turns the paper slightly 'off white' and sometimes induces a slight grey mottling effect into the paper. Using the clear paper is fine though..
Best job I ever did was the creation of all the decals on this Richard Burns Subaru Legacy in the Elonex colour scheme. Everything except the door number boards (which were done on the ink-jet) were done with the laser...

Decals are very easy to do : You print, you cut, you dip in water, all that directly after printing (no need to apply varnish) Bel Decal laser paper is really good and works with Microsol or alcohol. I use it with a HP CP1215 with a great result and I don't want an other brand ! |

Re: Laser Question
DO NOT USE INK JET PAPER IN A LASER PRINTER!!!
The papers are specifically designed for the different printer types. Chances are if you use the ink jet paper in a laser, its going to melt onto the printing head, and then you're at the very least going to be replacing the print head. |
