rpm question

my son just bought me a 96 neon . the question is how high should the rpms be at 60 mph. this runs at 3 grand ,seems to be going in all the gears ive even stopped and manually shifted through the gears but it still seems to run high . is this normal?

Re: rpm question

Is it an auto or manual? My 96 neon with a manual tranny with the 3.94 transmission runs about 3K in 5th gear.

I have a 98 auto that runs at exactly 3g. at 60mph and 58-58.5 at 55 mph.
