2000GP - head gasket/LIM gasket?
2000GP 3.8 152K.
The other day noticed a coolant smell (grrr!). I pulled the plastic 3800 shield off the top and on top of the heads it looks like I've got some fluid starting to accumlate. Both dexcool and some oil. I had the LIM gasket replaced a couple of years ago. Could it be a repeat? |

Re: 2000GP - head gasket/LIM gasket?
It sounds to me like the LIM gaskets failed again. If they used the plastic oem style gaskets without the compression stops, then that's probably why. Both GM and Fel-Pro offer a metal framed improved design gasket set for this application which IMO is far superior to the plastic design.

Re: 2000GP - head gasket/LIM gasket?
Or the UIM gaskets. Especially if coolant is collecting on the LIM. Normally what you see is Dex-cool that has been burned sitting in the manifold and eventually turns black looking. But may not be oil.
Also, it may help to go back and check the torque in the proper pattern on all of the UIM bolts even after a recent installation.
