i haven't had it read. the light only comes on when I'm idling.. red lights or just starting the car up and running it. when I'm moving it goes away so i assumed it may not have a code coming up

the check engine light will always come on at key on as a self test (so you know the light is working and not removed/burnt out. If this is the case, then it is normal. The only time the ECL is a concern is if it stays on constantly, goes on and off randomly while driving, or blinks rapidly during accelleration.

i said it comes on at red lights. it comes on when I accelerate above 50 sometimes also.

also i checked last night, i'm still dumping oil after having the valve cover and intake manifold gaskets replaced.

edit: i could have explained this better-

the light STAYS on as long as i idle. when i shift it into drive and take off, it EVENTUALLY goes away. then it sometimes comes back on while i'm still moving, but ALWAYS comes back on when i stop at a red light. it also ALWAYS comes on when i'm driving above 50 mph

It sounds like you may have a bad oil pressure switch, oil pan gasket or rear main seal (all common issues on these engines. The oil pressure switch will cause oil leakage in the passenger side back of the motor area, the oil pan gasket will show leakage anywhere across the engine, and the rear main seal will show between the back of the block and transaxle (driver's side). As far as the CEL, you need to have it scanned and post the codes they find, as we could guess all day on what is causing that.

Re: pic of my blown IM gasket; replaced; still getting SES light. Ideas?

Just had the code read:

P0325

The mechanic told me it was a bad knock sensor. When I asked him about the oil leak he said it could either be unrelated or the o-ring on the knock sensor might have failed.

Thoughts?
