Odd noise from front end

So I have looked at other threads and have done some searching under the hood. I have a weird noise coming from the front driver side of my GP. I can hear it occasionally when stopped an it's only in drive and 1-3. If I shift to neutral, reverse, or park it goes away. It also seems to go away if I let my foot off the brake. The best I can describe it it's a cross between a vibration/rattle an boiling fluid. It's not everytime I'm stopped. I recently did the LIM. Everything seems fine best I can tell. It's a 2002 GP SE 3.1. I have about 130k. Any thoughts?

Hmm, I know the 3100's are a PITA to burp the cooling system. Are you sure you got all the air out?? Is there maybe a way you could get a video or sound clip so we can get a better idea of the noise you're hearing?

Re: Odd noise from front end

I'm pretty sure I got all the air out. I have put over 500 miles on since I did the LIM. I have topped it off in both the radiator and resirvour as needed. I didn't use the bleeder valve since they are so prone to snap off and I didn't want to deal with it. I'm in MN and the heat has been working great as well as the engine temp which I would expect to be less than optimal if there was still air in the system. I just started noticing the sound yesterday. I don't think a sound recording would be much help. It's not real loud and over the sound of the engine it would be tough to hear in a recording. I can sure give it a try though.

Re: Odd noise from front end

Any chance the engine/transmission mount is going bad? Have you felt any vibrations?

Best regards,

Oscar.

Re: Odd noise from front end

It's possible. I have tried looking and listening under the hood, but can't seem to identify it. Looking at possible loose items like heat shrouds and what not. Other than being somewhat annoying the car runs great.

Re: Odd noise from front end

have you stuck a hose on there and put up to your ear to try to find it? they do got a probe as i do it runs on battery's and head phones it's like a amplafire and yo can pretty much find it rite way. so try the old hose sound have someone put brake on run it in drive and then reverse it just might be a moter mount or tranny. when you do this watch how much the moter raises in gear.

Re: Odd noise from front end

If the noise is present AND your a/c compressor is "off" then I highly suspect this noise.

Re: Odd noise from front end

Sorry it's been a couple weeks, just go back from vacation. I have had the defrost on which would have the AC on as well. I noticed when pressing the brake the sounds is present. When letting off the brake to just before the point of the car starting to move and it stops. I am going to look at the brakes a little closer.
