How long can I run with it bypassed, and whats where is the best (cheapest) place to get one?

Re: Fuel pump resistor
Tim probably indefinitely or until the fuel pump burns out but I doubt that. The '01 and up GTPs have different fuel pumps that run in single speed with the full 12 volts applied.

Re: Fuel pump resistor
Thanks Bob. I wonder if changing out my pump after christmas had something to do with the resistor burning out. Or maybe its juts a coincidence.
Where do you think would be a good spot to relocate it to? I was trying to think of somewhere where it will get a stream or air when driving.

Re: Fuel pump resistor
ah finally tblake isnt a mister know-it-all!
just playin. anyway, i dont know about the part listed above, but when i had mine replaced, the wires were long enough to mount it on the firewall where the wiper motor assembly is housed. it has plenty of room to stay cool up there. i dont know if the PFYC one can be relocated or not, however.

Re: Fuel pump resistor
Hi Tim,
I wish I could have helped but I really have no idea about GTP specific stuff. ![]() Relocating the resistor close to the wiper assembly sounds great, if there would be any chance to install it close to the radiator that would be great too. It will depend on how long the harness is or if you're willing to install aftermarket wiring. Best regards, Oscar.

Re: Fuel pump resistor
There used to be a relocation kit available but I don't see it anymore. It had the special wiring harness extension. The inner fender in the engine compartment works fine.

Re: Fuel pump resistor
Bob, from what I read, the new part number, 88951182, that supersceeded (sp?) the old one, now comes with long wires that plug into the stock resistors plug. See link.
http://www.rmsautoparts.com/proddeta...?prod=88951182 Sounds like you need to place it somewhere away from other wires and plastic because from what I hear it heats up. So I don't know if I should try finding a good location on the core support or just put it somewhere near the old one and zip tie the wire up. You saw the wonderful news over on the alero forum I see..... 2nd pump this year!!!!!!!! (and its only february).

Re: Fuel pump resistor
Tim,
I can also suggest you to buy some heatsink silicon grease (available at most electronics store), put some on the back of the resistor and attach it to any metallic part (fender, frame, etc.) that way the heat will be dissipated by the metallic element and your resistor will be cooler. Best regards, Oscar.

Re: Fuel pump resistor
I can't be sure about elements washing it away, but I've used strong solvents on it and haven't had problems with it just let it dry overnight.
I don't know how it is supposed to be originally held in place but, It would be even better if you could somehow add a bolt or two to it so it keeps some pressure on the compound and hold it in place too.

Re: Fuel pump resistor
I don't think the issue was the part overheating but being in a bad location subject to moisture and the elements. Corrosion, etc.
It only affects '97-'00 GTPs since GM got rid of it in 2001 and up.

Re: Fuel pump resistor
Hey Tim, why don't you just use the casper fuel pump re-wire???? it eliminates that issue.

Re: Fuel pump resistor
I hadn't thought about that. I will have to read up on it. Does it run the pump constantly in high speed mode? How easy is it to install?

Re: Fuel pump resistor
it is cake to install. you just run from the peg on the fuse box through a grommet in the firewall under the door moldings and into the trunk. you do not have to splice any wires. It does not run the pump on high all the time, it has better gauge wiring for a more consistent voltage feed.
