Struts?

Im looking to replace all 4 of my struts in my 99 GP GT. It doesnt look that difficult but was wondering about struts with or without coil springs? Why wouldnt you replace the whole assembly? I see the ones without coil springs are alot cheaper but you use the old coil springs on the new struts. Doesnt the old coil springs wear out? Would a new set of the Monroe quick struts that come with the new coil springs be that much better of a ride in the end instead of using the old coil springs on the new struts?

Re: Struts?

coil springs usually dont get replaced unless the car is sitting to low
the price for complete w/springs is proboly doubled so if the car is level
& not sagging i'd just replace the strut
good luck

Re: Struts?

If the cost is acceptable get the whole thing. It would suck to do all the work changing over the spring then have it break in a month, I have seen lots of the springs break over time. and the job is easier that way.

Re: Struts?

Don't waste your money on the monroe quick struts. Your ride will suffer, and mine made noise from day one. Stick with stock struts or other members have had good luck with KYB brand.

Re: Struts?

100% Agreed. I've never used Monroe however, for our cars I've heard they are way too mushy and as Tim stated can make lot's of noise.
I have KYB GR2's now for four years and am extremely happy with the handling.
