Fuel pump ...........
I need a new fuel pump for a 2001 S-10 Crewcab 4WD V-6. I looked at the NAPA site and they want $399.95 for the entire assembly. That's a bit steep. Can I get just the pump? if so, which do you suggest? And any advice on the install would be great!

Have you checked fuel pressure and leakdown? Make sure that's the problem before replacing it. Could save you some money. Key ON, engine OFF, fuel pump running: Pressure must be 60psi to 66psi and must remain above 55psi for 10 minutes after the pump shuts off. Post your results.

Well, I'm not really sure sure, there's a high pitched whine comming from my fuel tank and it's constant....................

A new OEM pump you really have to listen close to hear it. It could be the bushings in the pump motor going south. The only "fix" for that is a new pump. If it does need a pump, do yourself a favor and don't waste your time or money, get an AC Delco or a Delphi pump.

Run the fuel level down as low as you dare just before you replace the pump, it makes handling the tank much easier when you drop it down. Keep us posted.

Well, after doing some pricing, I can't afford a fuel pump because I spent all my money buying the truck in the first place, so, I suppose she'll sit in the driveway looking pretty..............................

I agree- go with the a/c delco or delphi pump--and I always find it easier to left the bed up about 2 feet to change a fuel pump on a pick-up truck- no need to have a near empty tank that way, and you can sit on the tire to change the pump. Only 8 bolts hold that bed down...

Just pick up an elcheapo off of ebay for $70 or so.
I bought one for a 00 S10 ZR2 and it's been working for 6 months and 7000 miles so far without issue. I'm sure it won't last as long as the delco pump but $70 with free shipping/no sales tax is a lot better than $399 plus sales tax even if it doesn't last as long. At least you'll be able to get it back out on the road!
