Please your feedback buying a 2011 Sonata

Hello All,

Looking at buying a 2011 Sonata. I keep my cars a long time... the one I'm looking at replacing is a 96 corolla (230 000 kms). As a result, my buying new car skills aren't that developed. I need help / feedback on specifically the 2011 Sonata.

There's a lot of good things being said on the Sonata. So I'm guessing there's a fairly high demand for the car out there.

Have you been able to negotiate on the sticker price at all ? How much ?

Any factory / dealer incentives ?

I want a manual. It only comes on the entry level trim. The dealership I visited gave me the 'everybody likes the automatic, so we don't make a lot of 6 speeds. You'll have to wait 5 to 6 weeks'. True or am I being 'pushed' to higher trim levels ?

Would any dealership gave me anything for my trade-in ?

Amy other hints ?

Thks in advance.

Good luck finding a manual transmission Sonata. They are very hard to find, because nobody wants one. If they can't locate one at another dealer to trade with, there is no other options other than to wait for one. You should be able to negotiate on the price. They are in high demand, but not so much that they can't be had. The Limited trims are becoming a little hard to find, but if you are just looking for a GLS, you should be able to find plenty, as long as you will live with an automatic.

Hey thanks for the info lowsonoma1999. It's a bit disapointing on the manual.... I've always loved standards + I figured with the decent Sonata engine, the standard version should be fun to drive ! Maybe it's just me though....

I just happened to be walking through the showroom today and glanced inside a Sonata that was sitting by our sales desk. It has a manual transmission. Don't know how hard it would be to get a US spec car into Canada, or if you'd be willing to make the trip to IN to get one, but we do have one, dark blue in color with tan interior.

Good car, it was born with less issues than my Jaguar.

Re: Please your feedback buying a 2011 Sonata

We recently bought a 2011 Sonata and had a bit of a reduction in price but not much. It seemed that most dealers around us weren't giving much in the way of rebates/reductions since the cars "were selling very well". So in my area it seemed that we did alright getting a little bit of a break.

Re: Please your feedback buying a 2011 Sonata

Hey LowSonoma. thanks for letting me know about the 6 speed u have. being in canada, it would involve paperwork and custom hassle getting the car across. also warranty work may be a problem. so I'll need to get my Sonata in Canada and of course pay a premium for it... why I don't know cause our currency is pretty much at par now... but that's another story !

Thanks cmlang for reply.... congrats on your purchase. can u tell us what kind of % off sticker price the dealerships in your area were willing to discount ? what trim ?

Re: Please your feedback buying a 2011 Sonata

I recently bought a 2011 Sonata Hybrid. I am a life member of the NRA and by going through their buyer's guide I was able to start at $1200 below factory invoice and then work everything down from there. At least it's a good way to start below MSRP!!!

Re: Please your feedback buying a 2011 Sonata

Also just bought a 2012 sonata. First went to a canadian website that gives you invoice cost and factory to dealer incentives. Don't know how accurate this is but I gave it a try. Service costs 40$. I went two 2 dealers... first one 'accepted' the price I offered (which was below MSRP and below Invoice cost)... but they then try to catch me with 500$ etching, wheel locks and all sorts of nonsense fees. Just walked out and went to a dealership up the road. Got my price and no other fees.... transaction done in literally 10 minutes. Even though the Sonatas sell well, some dealerships (at least from what I saw in my area) are willing to negotiate.
