Re: idle rpm

Re: idle rpm
Hi, IDLE is not adjustable. It's adjusted by IACV (Idle Air Control Valve). Maybe it's dirty. Remove it and use carb cleaner to clean the IACV.
regards. Here you can see how to do it: http://leckemby.net/windstar/windstar02.html

Re: idle rpm
I cleaned the IAC and throttle body this morning, did not seem to make a difference in warm idle. Seems to idle a little smoother tho.
thanks |

Re: idle rpm
You can test IACV by disconneting the cable with the engine off. Then try to start it. It should stall. Also with engine on disconnect the wire and idle should change and try to stall. Let us know the results, maybe IACV is bad.
Other symptom is when you are doing maneuvre park sometimes engine stalls. Mine was really bad and engine stalled at every corner... cleaning did not help much, I had to change it.

Re: idle rpm
I disconnected the IAC, it wanted to stall but kept running just barely. Hooked the connector back up and it increased rpm and leveled out. I do NOT have any driveability problem so I am going to leave it go for now as there are other repairs that should be done first. 02 sensors, shocks, struts. thanks
