Re: 97 GTP wheel bearings

what brand of wheel bearings are you using? How many have you gone through and how many miles till they went bad?

irregular toe wear on tires can sound like bad wheel bearings...is that a possibility?

I installed a/c delco on grand am and grand prix and each time they were bad right out of the box. Installed gm oem bearings and were ok.

Re: 97 GTP wheel bearings

What ever autozone sells cant remember what brand but they last about 6 to 8 months and they start to grind at 65 to 70 mph and get progressively worse now 25mph getting ready to replace again.

What are you torquing the axle nut to? Too tight or too loose will have them wear out premature.

Hi Smitty,

I moved your post from our tips and maintenance subforum to our main grand prix forum to help get more replies. Please try and keep all posts in the subforum related to tech tips and repair procedures and post all questions in our main forum.

Autozone house brand parts are never the greatest quality. I always go with the premium wheel bearings and havn't had issues with replacements yet. What is the warrenty on your replacement bearings? Some have 1 year replacement. Plus always make sure you torque your wheel bearing nut with a torque wrench to 159ft/lbs.

I believe more then likely it is the duralast autozone house brand. Go to rockauto, the prices are decent and has several brand to choose from normally.
