Mercedes SL63 - double build

Hello everyone.

It feels like it's been a long time since I managed to last build anything. I have a few half-started kits laying around but decided to create this thread to help keep me motivated and share my progress.

I have both types of the SL63 and also bought a set of Hobby Designs PE detail-up set. I'm planning on building one pretty much straight OOB and the other using the PE set, slightly "tuned".



Started work on the brakes. Stock brake disks:


PE brakes are very nice with individual pins supplied for what I think are the retaining clips. They are a nightmare to work with though. So I shaved off the stock clips from the plastic part:

Took inspiration from Macio4ever's NSX build to separate the floor from the interior tub. Filled the hole with 1mm styrene sheet:


Seat mount removed for easier painting/detailing/flocking:


Locator hole drilled so the tub is in the right position:




After seeing ZoomZoomMX-5's hint about the seats, I half opened the joint and bent it back:


Stock on left, modified on right:






Thought I'd only modify the driver's side seat. I had to slightly re-shape the driver figure to fit into the seat better. Legs have been straightened but the back reclined has not been shown:



Did some slight work on the engine. I noticed there is a gap between the engine block and the front pulley-face:




Filled in with some 0.5mm styrene for added support:
