More problems/Month 2

SO just went to the dealer and they fixed some wires that were bad, they had to unhook all of my modules to get their machine to hook up (they said last week they have a ford 500 with the same problem)

On my way home the transmission light started to flash for maybe 10-20 seconds. It flashed very fast and then shut off. It staid off the rest of the ride home.

Some symptoms i have notices since driving my wifes van for the last week or so. When you start the van it has a gentle push forward and stops, seems to do this every time. It is noit a hard rock forward but it moves.

Second, yesterday i noticed the speedometer started to go crazy, around 40MPh and higher the needle moves +- 10 MPH. It goes from 40 to 45 to 35 in seconds.

My ABS light is on.

What do i need to check.. This has been a bad 2 months with this windstar. Every week it is in the shop or i'm fixing something

Re: More problems/Month 2

Which wires did they replace?

Your problem sounds like the wires to the transmission weren't properly connected or fixed.

The speedometer problem might be a bad Vehicle Speed Sensor/wiring, the PCM reads the signal form the VSS in order to shift between gears and provide the signal for the speedometer. If there is not a good signal it can cause many different problems with your transmission. It is located at the right side of the transmission.

Best regards,

Oscar.

Re: More problems/Month 2

They replaced the wire harness that connected to the Bank 2 sensor 2 oxygen sensor.

The transmission pushing when starting has been doing that befiore the fix and the spedo has been doing that for a few weeks, my wife told me last night.

The Overdrive light flashing, that was new as of yesterday. It did it for that 15-20 seconds and that was it. I drove it to work today, 30 miles, and no problems.

I was thinking maybe to check my transmission fluid level? Could low fluid cause that?

Re: More problems/Month 2

The O/D light can be caused by low fluid, so check that first. The pushing I'm not sure and I really don't think so, this must be caused by the PCM getting the wrong signal from the transmission (it thinks the van is moving when it's not). Which leads once again to the VSS causing your speedometer to get the wrong reading and other transmission problems.

Best regards,

Oscar.

Re: More problems/Month 2

Oscar thanks for the reply, I am thinkin it is the VSS, everything i looked into is pointing to that. I did check my tranny fluid and it was low. So i filled that up.

It is ging to be fixed along with the bad ball joint.. Thanks for your input!

Re: More problems/Month 2

The tranny is very sensitive to low fluid, so that could have been a factor.
Another thing that has not been mentioned is the Transmission Range Sensor (aka Neutral Safety switch).
The vehicle speed sensor is the one that is located above one of the catalytic converters......on the back side of the transmission case.
It is not an expensive part, but is very hard to get to, it would be super easy to change, except that it has a very bad location.
