Long term project: Evolution collection

This will be a long term project that I've always wanted to do and it has taken me quite a few years to actually collect the kits needed. I'm planning to create a show room type diorama that will showcase the evolution of the evolution from the evolution I GSR all the way to the current evo x.

I'm currently undecided on how to go about painting the kits. do I go with a different color for each car to help each car stand out? or do I paint them all white for the classic evo look? I'm currently leaning towards an all white set up since this should look good in a diorama. I'm also taking suggestions on how to go about the diorama. let me know what you guys think!

not much pix yet but here's the entire collection:

What? no evo I and II and two evo III kits??

there's the evo I which I can't seem to find the box for. since the evo II is near impossible to find, I made a resin cast of the evo I bumper and will convert the extra evo III kit back to an evo II

will throw in a few shots of my other projects, r33 in the front, 03 sti in the center (also going to build the sti evolution from the late 90s to the 2006 model, still waiting for the new aoshima sti) and the evo 8 in the back.

Should be interesting, good luck.

My initial thought would be to go with white on all of them. That said, after 2-3 completed ones you may become bored to death with painting the bodies white.

daunting project ahead of you, but should be fun. I agree that after a while you may end up hating any white evo lol. Good luck

Definately an ambitious project. I think i'd favour the all white paint scheme too. Looking forward to more of this

Re: Long term project: Evolution collection

I'll keep a close look at this thread!

The Evo 2 is sure hard to find. A long time ago while I stumbled upon a Japanese website of someone modifying a Fujimi Evo 3 into an Evo 2! It wasn't just a front lip and wheel mod, but he went the extra ten miles to correct the body shape from the grill, headlights, and the rear end!

I hope I can still find that site today. It is really good inspiration for anyone wanting to build any of the first 3 generation Evos from a more common kit.

Re: Long term project: Evolution collection

thanks for the encouragement guys! looks like I'm going with the all white paint job. I can just imagine rubbing out 10 white cars to a glossy finish

kaho, I would love to see that website if it was still up. unfortunately I haven't done much research on the difference between the evo2 and 3 so initial plans are to modify the front bumper with the resin piece, side skirts and rear wing.

its going to be a primer weekend! some of the prepainted car bodies are take a brake fluid bath though so any other car ready for painting will be primered

Re: Long term project: Evolution collection

first victims of the bunch, the hasegawa evo3 and fujimi evo7 I'm going to paint all of them in tamiya gray primer first to ensure they have the same shade of white. tried my hand at scribing panel lines and I suck. now I need to fill in some of my mistakes.

+1 on the white LanEvo project. I´m already on a "4 black cars" project so I understand what you´re going thru.
I love themed projects (I´m already on a GT-R, Fairlady and Silvia sisters project).
