Water pump question

My 02 Trooper has 132,000 miles on it and needs the timing belt replaced. Is it recommended to replace the water pump at the same time?

Depends:

Are you doing the work yourself? If so, do you mind if you have to go back in later to replace the pump?

If not, it's probably better to have the pump replaced while the mechanic is on the job.

Bottom line - I would (and did) replace it! Along with the hydraulic pusher, tensioner pulley and idler pulley.

Re: Water pump question

At 132K miles, it's a judgement call. I would replace it If it was me. If not, you'll have to pull all of that off again to get to the water pump if it does puke so why not?

Re: Water pump question

Any time you tear something down extensively to repair/replace something, it's really a good idea to replace the things you had to remove while you have it apart. Usually if the one part went bad, the rest are not far behind. So yes, replace water pump, oil pump, hoses, belts, etc. if you can.
