Rear Axel Recall thoughts.

So I took my 03 Windstar for the axel recall. I didn't like what they did; they just put brackets on the places where the axle normally cracks and breaks, then tarred the whole axle. There is still a possibility that the axle could break where they didn't reinforce it.
Also, my uncle brought his 99 Windstar in and they just checked it, said it wasn't cracked, then tarred it; no brackets. Did anyone else not get the brackets?

I've heard about Ford using brackets to reinforce the axle - but haven't seen them yet. Can you share pictures of the brackets?

Re: Rear Axel Recall thoughts.

I would like a pic to, i want to see if they installed the bracket. they told me 6 hours on the phone and they called me 1.5-2 hours later and said it was done. Along with doing the speed control recall. I even questioned them on this and they dismiseed it.

Here's what they look like. As you can see, they did not brace the entire axle. Two brackets, one on each end, then they tarred the axle.

That's not right. They are supposed to have the van overnight to let the glue/tar dry. At least that is what the majority of the dealers are saying.

Re: Rear Axel Recall thoughts.

the metal can't be very thick if they can open the upper part of plate to slide over the axle..
