96 Windstar Ignition Actuator Replace / Repair

I've determined that the actuator rod between the lock cylinder and the ignition switch on my 96 windstar has either broken or become separated. Anyone fixed this problem before?

It looks like I'll have to remove the steering column but wondering if there are some other tricks that would make it easier? My Haynes manual doesn't help so any specifics would be much appreciated.

Re: 96 Windstar Ignition Actuator Replace / Repair

I haven't done it in a windstar but I did it once in other vehicle. It is pretty straight forward, just lower the steering column and you'll see the actuator rod near the top of it.

Make sure you DISCONNECT the battery 15 minutes before you start working on this, failure to do so can result in deployment of the air bag system.

Best regards,

Oscar.
