2006 Altima sat for one week and would not start.

My daughter's Altima sat for one week and when she tried to start it would only turn over. It would crank and I could hear it trying to start, it would fire a few times but never start.

I sprayed starting fluid in the intake, opened the throttle all the way it finally cranked and stayed running and is running perfectly now.

Has anyone ever heard of this? it's like the fuel pump lost it's prime or something but I know that is never supposed to happen.

Even though it's running good now I need to figure out what happened.
