05 grand caravan blower motor resistor pack?

On my Mother-in-law's 05 grand caravan, the heater fan/blower has become stuck on hi. Even with the climate control is shut OFF, the fan continues to blow on hi. The searching I've done has lead me to believe that it is a problem with the resistor pack(on the bottom of the blower, in the passanger foot well). Dose anyone know if there is a way to test the resistor pack to confirm that it's bad? I'd like to make sure before she has to spend $100 for a new part.

Oh, and I found some info that suggested the relay, but I checked that, and it's still good, that's why I'm thinking that it's the resistor pack.

It IS the Blower Motor Resistor, you have tested it, and it costs much, much less than $100 ( if you have manual AC) and takes only a few moments to replace.

Check the plug, they are also known to have problems. I changed my resistor only to have the plug melt and short out the new resistor 3 months later. Now I need both, lol.

Resistor blocks are used on manual temp control systems. Cost $15. Blower motor control modules are used on automatic temp control systems. Cost $80. On your model year they are both located in the same area behind the glove box. Here's a video that talks about the resistor block: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AS2mVNV2NFk

Ok, I guess it's a control module then? The van has the 3 zone automatic climate control.

so is there any way to determine that it is in fact the module that is bad? I'd hate to replace the module, only to find out that it's the switch that's bad.

Looks like you can disconnect connector C1 on the blower controller and measure the volts at contact #3 (dark blue/light blue wire) as you rotate the blower speed switch. If you see a voltage change from speed to speed your switch is good. Not sure what volts you should see.

Only if you have the electronic climate control. I have 3 zone heating with manual controls and it has a regular resistor.

Re: 05 grand caravan blower motor resistor pack?

RIP, thanks for the reply, I'll test it when I get home tonight, thanks again.

b1k1, I'm going to assume that it has a control module. It dose have manual adjustment, but it also has an "auto" feture. when "auto" is selected, the temp is manualy changed, but the fan speed adjusts automatically.

Re: 05 grand caravan blower motor resistor pack?

I just came in from testing. Assumeing I had the correct wire, I tested the center wire of the plug on the left side of the control module(I took pics of the plug and wire that I tested, but can't post them until tomorrow morning).
there were three wires on the plug, the left wire is black/orange, center wire is blue/lt blue, and the right side wire is dk blue. I tested all three,
left side, black/orange = no voltage at any fan speed setting.
center, blue/lt blue = no voltage at any fan speed setting.
right, dk blue = 11.9 v at all fan speed settings.

Am I correct in assuming that this means that the switch is bad?
