02 Camry doesn't like the cold

I live in northern Minnesota, it gets pretty cold up here. Lately my 02 Camry (2.2L engine with 157,000 miles) is very loud and rough running the first start of the day. It won't shift into over drive untill it reaches a certain temp, (I think this is normal). After I shut the car off and let it sit for as little as five minutes, the next start is normal nand the engine runs quieter and smooth like it should. Does anybody else have symptoms like this and have a fix for it? On the cold starts, it seems like the engine wants to jump out of the hood and seems like it is working very hard just to run.
