2002 4.2 hard to start

ive got a 2002 f150 4x4 with a 4.2 i have egr insuffient flow code and bank 2 running rich also sometimes i get cylinder 2 misfire and misfire in first thousand revs it sometimes struggles to start but sometimes it starts right up

i took it to a shop and they said it had low fuel pressure so new pump and tank( old one was rusted) its a bit better but still really struggles sometimes

wat else could be causing this i was thinking changing the plugs to help misfire and cleaning the egr ports and then if that doesnt help a new dpfe sensor

could it still be somethin with fuel pressure ? or wat esle can i do to fix the hard starting and engine codes???

Re: 2002 4.2 hard to start

1)A bad, or dirty MAF sensor is a symptom of a cold hard start.
2) Insuffient flow to EGR, take the throttle body off, clean EGR, and EGR gase passages @ the same time without removing the EGR valve.

Re: 2002 4.2 hard to start

A MAF sensor only seems to throw a code when it's a hard fault.

1) You can buy CRC MAF sensor cleaner, and a air filter at any local Auto parts store.
2) Clean both the MAF sensor and electrical connector, use a dielectric grease for electrical connection.
3) Roll the spark plug and wire from cylinder 2 to another pos.
4) Reset an clear code.

Notes -
Cylinder 2 is on bank 1 (passenger side)
Bank 2 - Running rich , Suspect upstream H02 sensor

How many miles are on this truck?

If over 120K miles, it's time for a new air filter, fuel filter, plugs, upstream H02 sensors, and probably a new MAF sensor.

Caution - Lets get this problem fixed, befor you damage your catalytic converters.

Re: 2002 4.2 hard to start

203000 km on the truck i have replaced all the filters and everything but the plugs when i bought the truck a few months ago

its winter hear and i dont have a heated shop so i was planning on changing the plugs in the spring when it warms up a bit

if plugs do not do it then your saying its the upstream o2 sensor on bank 2

and ill try cleaning the maf sensor before i replace it they are kind of pricy
