89 Olds Ceira 3.3 V-6 won't start.

I have a 89 Ciera that has been a very reliable car since day 1. The car has 157,220 miles and still runs like a scalded dog until now. 4 days ago I had taken it to the store, shut the key off and it never started again. After towing it home I scanned the OBD only to find my serpentine belt had 1 rib sheared off by a broken alternator bracket, wrapped around my crankshaft behind the balancer and slapped my Crankshaft Positioning Sensor to shreds. After installing a new sensor and gaping it 3 different times, I get the same results. It tries to start, but ends up sputtering and backfiring and shuts down almost immediately. I am a back yard mechanic, and have always enjoyed fixing my own cars.I'm stumped, Please Help Me !!

Make sure the tone ring on the damper is not damaged, or the wires in the connector are not pulled out slightly.

Thank You Maxwedge for your advice. I'm not sure which one your refering too as the tone ring since there are two rings that run trough this sensor, but I'll check both of them for damage and make sure once again that the wiring connecting to the sensor is good. I wish I knew the ohm rating for this sensor to make sure that the sensor is not defective ! should you know,I would appreciate feedback on that. Thanks again...

I forgot what it should be but google or do a sight search for the ohms reading you will find it.
