attitudes

I invited some other modellers to this site as a great site to be on,
but i have been told by them that they were shocked at the flameing and attitude of some posts, which ones i don't know or care actually.
but i think we should try to curve some of our attitudes.
i know some get upset over some ? noobs ask but if we offended newcomers and they don't come back what will happen to the site ?. these guy's wont be back they have been scared off

Smile

This goes along with society today, political correctness has spawned the wussification of the world. Example, people have kids, and because they now have them they want the whole world to change, to be a safer place for their precious kid. Now it's like people think they have a right to not ever be offended, well that isn't a right. No one will ever live their life and not be offended, it's part of living. So if someone leaves this forum from being thin skinned it's their loss.
It is true we need to keep it under control, I'm guilty as well, but no one on here can run me off as long as I want to be here. Maybe some people are just intimidated by better modeler's, hello, someone is always going to be better than you no matter what it is that you're good at.
Like somebody on here has in thier sig, it's up to us to keep it a fun place.

The way I see it, there are two options when you don't like what's happening in a given community:
1. Use your voice within the community to promote positive change.
-or-
2. Withdraw. Then you get no say in what goes on, but you don't have to be bothered by it.

phase5, I see you doing the first; you're registering your concerns with the group. Kudos to you for that. As for your friends, I'd be very curious as to what they're referring to. Off hand, it sounds like they were not comfortable with the established culture here at AF, which is their perogative. We allow a lot of freedom, but we do still come down hard on people that are just trying to start trouble.

Remember the differences between attitude and personality. I think, for the most part, the AF model forum runs pretty smoothly, especially compared to a few months ago, when we had some very rampant attitudes running around. That was a mess. Now I see a wide variety of personalitites, but very few bad attitudes.

Yes, we often give a hard time to people that don't seem willing to do a little digging for themselves, and repeatedly ask questions that are already outlined in the FAQ and PMan's 'New to AF' thread. We've gone out of our ways to make that info as easy to find as possible. That said, if you know a better way to promote it, by all means, let us know.

All that said, I expect all members of this forum to report to me, or any of the other 3 moderators for this forum, any posts that are in violation of the AF guidelines.
If, for some reason, you're uncomfortable contacting the four of us, there are about 75 other AF moderators that will listen, several of whom can also be found patrolling the Modeling Forum.
If none of us can help, you're welcome to contact the site admin igor@af. He's got the last word on anything within AF.

And then, as an immedate response to another member you don't like, remember your Ignore Lists. They work well if you let them...

If there's another member that you don't like, or if they just seem to rub you the wrong way, put their username in that list.

Tell them to consider the rules of netiquette.

http://www.albion.com/netiquette/rule5.html

I'm fine when someone on here asks a question, but if they are too ignorant to use proper grammar/spelling/sentence structure then I'll find a way to get my opinion across.

Funny part is most of the kids that come in without regard to netiquette are from the U.S., while some of the "most foreign" members of this board have better sentence structure and spelling.

FLAME ME FLAME ME FLAME ME OH IT FEELS GOOD SOOO GOOD
AS i said i don't really care about flameing i think its good sometimes as it brings life to the site and it should bring life to modelling.i'm very thick skinned and i just wanted to let people know what i was told
and when i said (but i think we should try to curve some of our attitudes.
) i should have put sometimes after it
