Cam Gears, what are best?
I was looking for the best bang for my buck cam gears. I was looking at skunk 2 cam gears for my b18b which is going to be turboed. However I saw the str pro series for much cheaper. Like 150 for a pair. They have 5 screws, one less than the skunk 2's but are like 70 bucks cheaper. Does anyone know if they are any good or knows of a real good cam gear. Also what about the JG's, venoms, and golden eagle's? I figured the STR and skunk 2's would be better cause they have more screws but I'm not sure, If anyone can help please do or if you have a good or bad experience with a cam gear please share.
thanks |

Buddy of mine has the STR's and they slipped and cost him a couple runs at the track.I've heard a couple other stories of them slipping too.

which str's though
which str's are you talking about though, there are cheap three screw str's and there are the pro which have 5 screws. I figured a cam gear with five screws wouldn't slip often. When I looked up the STR's initially I saw those three scew ones and I laughed. Can you check with your friend and see which ones he had. Thanks a lot.

get cam gears that have 6 things to tightent he cam gear in place so it doenst slip. like the aem ones suck, get like skunk2. aem only has like 3 or 4 tighting bolts, while the skunk has 6, get the 6 so it doesnt slip

5 or 6
Well that's why I was asking, skunk 2 has 6 and the STR has 5 but the STR are much cheaper so I was seeing if anyone had experiences with them.

Which ever one's you get, keep an eye on them for wear around the notches/teeth where the timing belt rides. Some of them well wear quicker and the belt to start jumping the notchs/teeth. Causing the piston and valves to crash into each other in some cases....

For those that are interested in this thread I've decided to go with crower cams, because they use ARP studs. No SLIPAGE
