1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.2L - Black Smoke
My Jeep had a problem about 6 months ago where thick black smoke was coming out. Subsequently replaced EGR and O2 sensor. Now I have the same problem again and the computer is putting out codes 34 and 51 which are for the EGR Valve and O2 sensor. Took it to my mechanic and he did a diagnostic and the O2 was reading lean but the MAP sensor wasn't reading it was only 4.4V and I think 4.6-4.8 is what you want. Bought an aftermarket sensor, car ran smoke free for two days and now the smoke is back.
In addition I have replaced the fuel filter. I read the things to know about Jeeps and the TPS might be the culprit because in addition to the smoke the car is stuttering and jumping like crazy. Any thoughts? Last edited by LadyJ218; 01-03-2011 at 11:40 AM. Reason: spelling |

Re: 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.2L - Black Smoke
before replacing the TPS, have it checked. At idle, it should have a feedback voltage of 0.5 V (the orange/black wire) and at WOT around 4.5V. You definitely have a rich condition and a TPS that sending the wrong signal will cause the computer to dump more fuel than necessary. Check your plugs and make sure that they are fouled out.
