what is shotpeened? what is being done to you internals when you shotpeen it?

shotpeening is actually a simple process that increases the overall strength of a metal part. its like sandblasting, except the metal part is blasted with thousands of tiny pieces of metal at a very high velocity. this stretches the top layer of the metal piece and hardens it. for instance this is done to connecting rods when turbocharging an engine. they still wont be as strong as crower rods but it helps a lot when you want to raise the boost a little over 10 psi
