Another Transmission Problem

Ive been reading some posts on here about transmission probs on the Grand Prix. Some great info here for the DIY. Great work!!! My problem is with my daughters 99 Prix. 3.1 liter automatic

These are the issues

Will only pull out in 1st gear
Will shift through all gears manually
Slips in 1st and between 1st and second
When you slow down and it down shifts will not pull unless you manual shift to first. but slips then also

I changed the fluid and filter today and found a piece of metal in the pan. Its kind of hard to discribe but here it goes

Curved about one inch in size (Not a complete round piece)
Appears to be made of the same thing the body of the trans is but the outside edge is copper or brass coated.

I know its not a very good discription. I have pics of it but couldnt get it to upload.

I read about the PCS and wondered if it was part of it ?

The curved peice of metal sounds like it could be part of a band in your trans.

Either way its a hard part of a rather large size and nothing short of a complete rebuild is going to solve your problem. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Same thing as pulling the oil pan off a knocking engine and finding a chunk of a piston skirt in there, you could change the oil a million times but the knock isn't going to stop.
