Chrysler Intrepid shuts off while driving

I am driving a Chrysler Intrepid 2000 2.7L. The car shuts off while I’m driving it from time to time. Sometime it will start but some other time it takes time before it starts.

I changed the spark plugs, the air filter and added gas line antifreeze and water remover but it didn’t help.

Could any body advise/

Thanks

Replace the fuel filter and run fuel injector cleaner with your gas. If that does not work get the alternator checked. My bet is the fuel filter is clogged.

bad crank sensor will do that too, as possibly a bad knock sensor --the 2.7 is a cursed engine

Zakarov, I don't know about the engine being cursed but when it shuts off you need to check for fuel and spark. Does it shutdown when the engine is warm or cold? I agree with 94LeBaron change the fuel filter and run some fuel system cleaner through it periodically. I think with the proper upkeep the 2.7 is as good as any. My neighbor has one that has been troublefree for 10 years.

Re: Chrysler Intrepid shuts off while driving

you say it "shuts off". is this a sudden occurrence, or what? fuel starvation is gradual, like passing a truck and then you have less power and the truck passes you-- that's a fuel problem-- you can go to an AutoZone and use their drb for free. the check engine light must be coming on, right? it will display codes.
You really have something else going wrong if the auto shutdown relay is activated while you are driving. the car is trying to prevent further damage. [ a sudden death].
the trep will die suddenly when one of its engine position sensors goes offline, or theres too much play in a cam chain tensioner due to dirty or low oil. there are o rings under the inake manifold that start to weep and lower the coolant levels.
theres an oil supply problem to the tensioner
