Another head swap thread...

I have a 3rd gen 2001 saturn SC2. I have to rebuild the engine due to piston failure. I have heard that the 1st gen dohc heads have much better flow. What else would be needed for the swap?

I think that the throttle body is at the back by the firewall on the 3rd gen and its in the middle on the 1st

Re: Another head swap thread...

It's the 1998 and older DOHC heads that flow better. But honestly, unless you plan on heavily modding the engine otherwise it is not worthwhile IMO.

You would definitely need the following parts:

-1991-1999 PCV & Brake booster hoses, MAP sensor
-1995-1999 throttle body
-1996-1999 Intake manifold
-1996-1998 cylinder head
-1998-1999 fuel rail
-2000 DOHC PCM (w/Federal emissions) with same options as your car regarding cruise, ABS, and auto/manual transmission *needed to eliminate A.I.R.
-1996-1998 exhaust header...your downpipe may not bolt up to this header, but the 1996-1998 downpipe may not clear the tie plate on underside of your engine block either

I can't think of anything else. I'd pay a visit to the SaturnFans or Sixthsphere forum for more info if you are serious about doing this.
