racing engine / problem solved

My luck Christmas eve I drove to the inlaws for a Chrimas dinner and 4 Hrs. later I went to start my 97 Grand prix and the engine backfired it started but the engine just raced tryed to step on the gas but nothing happened is it a spring that came off a throttle senser HELP
Went back to the car only to see gas under the car when I opened the hood I took the cover off and there the plastic cover that covers the injectors BLOW off the engine, taking with it the throttle senser I still don't see how this happned I guess the injector leeked and filled the top with gas and KABOOM I'm only glad this happened outside and not In my garage IT will be getting towed to a garage Marry christmas

Re: raceing engine

Is this a GTP. GT or SE model? Whats the rpm reading when it races? Try cleaning the throttle body especially the idle air controller (IAC). Also, make sure no vacuum lines have holes or disconnected.

The accelerator return spring is part of the throttle body butterfly. You can check that at the throttle body.
