Replacing encoder motor procedure
I've got a 99 Silverado 5.7 L and i'm replacing the 4wd encoder motor at the transfer case. I just can't seem to install the new one. I'm thinking I need to line up the male part pin on the transfer case with the female end on the encoder motor. How do I turn that pin on the transfer case so the two line up?

THE NEW ENCODERS COME POSITIONED IN NEUTRAL. IF THE OLD encoder is inop then jack up rear wheels off ground tranny in neutral , rotate drive shaft then try to rotate the transfercase slot. the encoder motor has 2 heavy guage wires these go to the motor . if all above does not work, then using fused jumper wires carefully apply power to the encoder motor wires for a very short time 1/2 second ,as you watch the motor rotate . connector C1 pin A is the blk wire, connector C1 pin B is the red wire. you can put positive on blk or red . this is how the motor reverses direction normally. doing this manually for a very short time you can safely rotate the encoder to the correct position.. after this is correctly aligned then install the gasket in position for permanent mounting. connector C1 pins D and C are the locking feed to lock up the motor ,,don't mess with them ! connector C2 this is the feedback to tell controller where the transfercase motor is in its position............ |
