Standard height

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the approx. height is as measured from the ground to the rear fender on a 1500 ext. cab long bed 4WD. Mine is around 35" with the truck empty, I know my leaf springs are pretty 'sagged' down but I'm trying to figure out how much.

to answer this correctly in a measured amount would be impossible.

the correct vehicle height would be when the U joints and cv joints have no angle. when straight this is the correct height.

when using air bag suport lifts this would be used with vehicle loading to inflate these air bags to the correct height.

with the joints straight no stress ..

tire types, sizes , fuel and other loading with equiptment etc , would make measuring not very useful..

I increased the front vehicle height to reduce the cv angles ..the front cv joints and the drive shaft on my 2000 sil have no angles , with a half tank of fuel..

The service department at your local GM dealer should be able to supply that info.

Be sure to give them your VIN.

I measured my vehicle at the location you measured . got 37 inch passengerside. 36 inch on driverside. 1/3 tank of fuel ..

I would not use this to say or I am not saying you have a sag issue because of this reading I got ...too many variables...

jCat, do your leaf springs still have a arch in it? Mine have a flat spot in the middle and the truck is almost perfectly level front to back with the bed empty and the tank about 1/3 full also. There's also about a inch difference between driver and passenger side height.

sounds very good..the only concern would be those axle joints. if the shocks are good and the axle joints straight this will be, with no joint failures..

the air bags with vehicle loading adjusts for sag. this keeps these joints from over working /failure..

many have added these air adjustible bags with good results..adding an extra leaf causes harsher ride and throws off these angles..

not often and not very far I haul/tow loads ..I did not install these on my current vehicle..

On my 1983 I did have air shocks and with loading I adjusted for correct height drove many miles and no joint failure ..gives a better ride..

on the leaf shape a new leaf will look evenly curved..as they break in the middle gets flatter..

with your miles don't go crazy on spending to fix somethings that still works...
