Question: Tamiya's Aircraft Sprays

Has anybody used these for their car models?

In particular, I'm thinking of AS-12 Bare Metal Silver. How does this do for a chrome finish?

Check out these pics...

I had to use the AS-12 too for the roll cage of some car , but I found it to be a nice variation of the TS-17 , a bit darker, yet more reflecting, Although I would prefer some other spray if I were to chrome parts .

Here is a chart i obtained from the tamiya paint forum for converting the AS range of paints, it was done by an experianced modeller and thanks must go to him(even though i dont know his name). hope this helps people. Regards Bob.

AS-1 (Dark Green) = XF-61
AS-2 (Light Grey) ~=? XF-20 + XF-25 (1:1
AS-3 (Grey Green)~=? XF-18 + XF-26 (3:1)
AS-4 (Grey Violet)--- no clue on this one--- maybe XF-24 + XF-18 + XF-9 (7:3:1)
AS-5 (Light Blue) ~=? XF-23 + XF-19 (4:1)
AS-6 (Olive Drab) ~=? XF-62 + XF-10 (4:1)
AS-7 (Neutral Grey) = XF-53
AS-8 (Navy Blue) ~=? X-3 + XF-17 + X-21 (10:5:3)
AS-9 (Dark Green) ~= XF-62 + XF-52 (3:1)
AS-10 (Ocean Grey) ~=? XF-53 + XF-18 (6:1)
AS-11 (Medium Sea Grey) ~= XF-20
AS-12 (Bare Metal Silver) ~= XF-16
AS-13 (Green) ~= XF-27
AS-14 (Olive Green) ~=? XF-58 + XF-62 (1:1)
AS-15 (Tan) ~=? XF-57 + XF-52 (4:1)
AS-16 (Light Grey) ~=? XF-20 + XF-2 (1:3)
AS-17 (Dark Green (IJA)) ~=? XF-61 + XF-2 (2:1)...or perhaps XF-11 + XF-2 (2:1)
AS-18 (Light Grey (IJA)) ~= XF-25
AS-19 (Intermediate Blue (USN)) ~=? XF-50 + XF-2 (2:1)
AS-20 (Insignia White (USN)) Unsure on this one...the chip looks grey...perhaps XF-19 + XF-2 (1:2)
Using this theory, I make the following bold statements:
("=" means : is very close to)
("~=" means : looks pretty close by my eye)
("~=?" means : I'm guessing at this one, but it can't be too far off)

Aren't most AS sprays based on the Federal Standard? Theroetically you could just find the corresponding FS # for each paint and then match it to the numerous manufacturers of aircraft paint (Testors, Humbrol, etc.) :coolguy:
