trans cable adjustment

TCC doesn't seem to engage all the time, only does sometimes, what can i look for that causes this issue and will it mess up my transmission if it doesn't engage. it worked fine till i moved it , not intentionally.

1988 4x4 w/ 2.8. and 4.3 throttle body and intake conversion.

Are you asking about the transmission cable to throttle body?
If so the first adjustment is full pull wide open throttle.
And then fine tune.

What is your upshift speeds on normal take off?
