85 Honda Civic stereo problem!

I have an 85 Civic hatch, and I had a Honda CD player professionally installed. The stereo is off a 99 Odyssey. Everything works fine, I just have two problems. One, there are no lights on the stereo. Two, the stereo only works if a piece of wire is inserted in the stereo fuse. Whats that all about? Has anyone heard of this?
