97 Grand Am ABS Problem

My 97 Grand Am threw a C1216 code that my reader said was "Electronic Brake Control Relay Coil Circuit" I have no idea where that thing is but am guessing in is on the ABS pump assembly someplace. If so is it fairly easy to get to and replace? If so, is it expensive or would I just be better off getting an assembly out of the salvage yard? I see one close to where I live at has several listed at $125. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

Thanks Phantom! I think I found it. Its gray and says GMABS on the top and is attached to the strut tower right? Any ideas on how to test it?

Re: 97 Grand Am ABS Problem

the coil is terminal 85-86 and should have a medium resistance (I don't have a number on hand, but I would expect it to be less than 1000 but more than 20 ohms that's for sure.

if you have that, power the coil with 12V, it should click.
87-30 should now be a short.

20 ohms or higher is good for a relay coil that is controlled by 12Vdc.

Re: 97 Grand Am ABS Problem

Well I ended up changing the relay and that code went away. I also changed the LR hub and sensor. Problem is I still have that code and the other 2 that say they are not defined. New problem I seem to have now is my reader is not clearing the codes and reseting it and the lights, ABS & ETS are staying on. I tried unhooking the battery but that did not help either. Again thanks in advance for any ideas you may have. This thing is starting to frustrate the heck out of me!

Re: 97 Grand Am ABS Problem

C1296 seems to be "Brake Fluid Pressure Sensor Circuit" based on some googling

c1298 "PCM Class 2 Serial Data Link Malfunction" according to the same site

I'ld check the fuses first, then would try to check each modules to see if the connector is oxidated...

Don't forget the airbag module, under the carpet of the passenger side seat...

It kinda worry me that you have a datalink malfunction...
