Rear end....

My rear end went out on my 88 4x4 pickup......truck wont move....driveshaft just spins and grinds and you can manuly wiggle the driveshaft all over where it meets the rear end....

How do I find out what rear end/gears i need? there is no tag anywhere on the rear end...I am possibly lookign at buying a used one....

Also, is there any links to a step by step for removing the gears??

thanks!!

Re: Rear end....

The gear ratio can be determined from the axle code on the VIN plate, located on the drivers door jamb or firewall. Typically Gxxx (where the x is a number).

If it's 4WD it's most likely G292, which is a 4.10 ratio.
Otherwise you can find a decoder online or just post back here and myself or someone else can tell you.
