over heating issue?
Okay I have a 99 dodge intrepid. I will drive around 30 miles and turn the car off to eat or something and it will turn back on fine, but after turning the car off and on 1 or 2 more times it doesn't want to start till my car cools down for an hour or so. When this happens I check my water and its full. Someone said it mite be a sensor of somekind, but I'm not sure. Any ideas??

Re: over heating issue?
Just start with the basics. You can carry a known good spark plug or spark tester in the glove-box, they won't get hot. I didn't check to see if you had coil on plug ignition?
When the problem occurs, if the vehicle cranks good but won't start, pull a spark plug wire, if the wire is hot, use a glove. Place tester in plug boot, ground tester to metal part of engine, engine cranking, watch for spark. You have to test when problem is ongoing. Any applicable trouble codes? |

Re: over heating issue?
you could have a problem with the crankshaft position sensor losing its signal. The sensor sits right near the exhaust on the passenger side mounted on the transmission. There's supposed to be a heat shield around it to keep it from overheating, make sure that's there before going forward. Also check all your ground connections under the hood, make sure they aren't loose or corroded. A faulty ground would cause intermittent problems.

Re: over heating issue?
Camshaft position sensor may be bad or out of adjustment ( too far from trigger wheel on cam sprocket). It needs to be barely touching the trigger wheel, a distance of the thickness of a piece of paper.
