rear window regulator 99 malibu

The rear window regulator failed and needs to be replaced. The mechanic said there is no aftermarket part for it, and would cost over $400. I never lower the rear window since I never have anyone riding in the back. Is there some way to make the window stay closed (I can pull it up with my hands and close it)? I tried duct tape, but that has been failing after a few weeks, particularly with extreme temperatures. Thanks

Re: rear window regulator 99 malibu

i did a search looks like regulator, motor, rollers etc. are all available
cost is no where near 400 did'nt see any part above 75.00
if you still want to just keep window up put a piece of wood under
the window glass & secure it

If you're a DIY, there must be lots of parts in a pick-your-part lot. There are up here in Alberta anyway.
