Civic 201000 miles runs perfect.. need advice

Hello,

I have a 1996 Civic LX that works perfect, burns no oil, gets great milage, runs strong.

I think that this thing is about due for a new clutch, but I am not sure whether it is worth it given its age and the amount of miles on the thing.

Anyone have any advice about this era civic?

Is the clutch replacement worth it, also I am really handy, Could I do this on my own? I love car projects and tinkering.. (which is why the car has 201k on it)

Also, if there is anything else that I should have done to the thing at this point, I am open to suggestions.

Thanks!

Depends what you will buy to replace it. At least you know what you have now and a clutch isn't much. Just think if you buy a car for $5000 it may need a thousand or more worth a work. A clutch replacement is much cheaper than car payments for 5 yrs or what ever it may be. We have seen 500,000 miles on a '95 Civic, 220,000 miles on my '01 Civic. There is nothing wrong with high miles as long as it is maintained properly. I always say I'd rather have a car with 200K that was maintained rather than a car with 70K that wasn't.

As far as doing the clutch yourself, it's really not that hard but that is coming fro m some one who works on the day in and day out. Get yourself a Honda repair manual from www.helminc.com and if you don't feel comfortable u still have the best tool you can ever buy, an OEM repair manual.

Did you choose to replace the clutch? If so, did you do the work yourself, or did you hire out? Please share with us what your decision was, and if you're happy with it!
