2001 wheel hub assy install

Getting ready to install both front hub assemblies. Anything special I need to be aware of?

Re: 2001 wheel hub assy install

It was a pretty easy job. The only cautions I can think of is be careful with the wires and clean the parts when putting everything back together. Use quality parts, I have heard that the cheap ones only last about a year.
good luck.

Re: 2001 wheel hub assy install

the hardest part will be getting the old hubs out. They corrode into the spindle and can be a real bear to get out, especially if you let the bad ones go until they got hot. DO NOT use an air impact gun on the axle nut when installing the new hubs, or you can almost guarantee damaging the ABS sensors. Torque the axle nut to spec with a hand torque wrench, as the torque preloads the bearing to insure it doesn't come apart or get overtightened. Follow any new torque specs that come with your replacement bearings if they differ from a repair manual spec, as slight variations in design may require a revised torque setting.

One last thing, your year is a changeover year so be sure you get the proper hubs. Early '01's have a stainless steel clip that holds the abs wiring out of the way, where the late '01's have a plastic clip. The brackets are different, and the wrong style clip will not attach securely, which in turn can ruin the new bearings. Good luck!
