Re: im completely New to wrangler

Blakie, Welcome to AF...and soon, to Jeep.

Wranglers are fun, no doubt about it. If you want luxury or speed, this isn't your ride. But otherwise they're great.

If you're looking for an older Wrangler, then the 2002-2006 is a good area to start. All the models you mentioned will have the 4.0 Liter in line 6 cylinder. The Sport is the least expensive, followed by the Sahara, then the Rubicon. The Sahara adds some luxury items (seat coverings, body package, stereo, etc) and the Rubicon adds a bunch of off-road performance things to it.

Any will work for you if you're not doing anything crazy offroad.

Starting with the 2007 model year, all Wranglers have the 3.8 Liter V6, and are available with 4 doors.

If you want it to be quieter on the highway, choose the hard top.

Most Wranglers, if they haven't been thrashed off road, will last a long time with regular maintenance.

Re: im completely New to wrangler

I currently drive a chevy cobalt and after having a few problems with it I'm consdering a jeep wrangler sport. Are there any major problems or concerns I should have with the jk modles?

Re: im completely New to wrangler

For most years, no major problems. What year were you thinking of getting? For 2012s, there is apparently a problem with the head lubrication, which is being repaired under warranty in most cases, and the problem has been solved in future years. Do a Google search for "3.6 tick" and you'll find lots of information. This was the first year for the new 3.6L V6.

Re: im completely New to wrangler

I have a 2008 wrangler with the 3.8 lifer engine. Ive heard nothing but good things about this engine. But I have heard plenty bad things about the 3.6. I would stick with the 3.8 just because of their reputation. If its just for fun I'd go with the base model. I don't know what they call it on the new ones but mine is the wrangler x if that helps.
